Chris Younken
The life of Chris Younken is all about music. Bitten young by
the music bug Chris originally started out on bass guitar, rapidly becoming
THE player in his hometown. Of course he started playing guitar soon
thereafter. Influenced by Jack Bruce and Jimi Hendrix, Chris knew what
he wanted - excellence! Through mutual friends he met Jamie, who had
just returned to State College after several years away and they formed
the art/folk group Lothlorien, the beginning of many collaborations.
In the many years since, Chris' musical interests have led him to many,
many performances, becoming a recording studio owner and engineer, a
guitar and bass teacher and currently working as an Audio Engineer at
WPSU-TV at Penn State University.
Chris currently performs with a reggae band,
the
Earthtones, who perform regularly all over Pennsylvania and beyond.
He's been in more rock, jazz, blues, R&B and folk groups than we can
keep track of. The one constant through it all has been people watching
and listening and going "Wow, can that guy play!"
Chris self-taught himself standardized recording, editing, mixing and
music mastering techniques and has owned his own studio for 27 years,
as well as doing remote engineering. At his studio, Sunrise, in State
College/Bellefonte PA. Chris has produced and engineered all styles
of music, voice-overs, jingles, slide shows and music for video. For
many years Chris partnered with Tom "T-Bone" Edmonds, sound engineer
for Lenny Kravitz and Todd Rundgren, among others. They shared equipment
and projects such as a live Lenny Kravitz CD on Virgin Records Japan,
mixed by T-Bone and edited by Chris.
You can listen to "Christmas Chills" for a sample of Chris' engineering
skills. Contact him at 814-404-6283 or christopher.younken@verizon.net
for your next studio project!
And let's not forget that Chris is also a cellist who majored in Cello
Performance at Penn State and studied with Leonard Feldman of the Alard
String Quartet.
